Monika Korte

Monika Korte has long been studying the Earth's geomagnetic core field and its formation. In particular she has been working on reconstructing the global geomagnetic field evolution from archeo- and paleomagnetic data over the last millennia. Her recent growing interest in global reconstructions of the extreme geomagnetic field changes during excursions and reversals inspired her and Co-PI Ilya Usoskin to tackle the challenging questions of the consequences of such events for our habitat with a suitable broad interdisciplinary team. This idea led to the GERACLE project. Monika now oversees the coordination of the project together with project manager Karina Wilgan, and she guides and supervises the GFZ group working mainly on the paleomagnetic data and modeling aspects.
