GERACLE at the European Cosmic Ray Symposium (ECRS)
Last week, three colleagues from University of Oulu, Alex Mishev, Stepan Poluianov, and Sergey Koldobsky participated in the biannual European Cosmic Ray Symposium (ECRS) that took place from 29 June to 3 July 2026 in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. This event complements another biannual gathering, the much larger International Cosmic Ray Conference.
Historically, the section about solar and heliospheric physics (covering the topics of GERACLE) is an important part of the conference, but the overall scope of the event is much larger: from solar physics up to cosmology, dark matter, and ultra-high energy cosmic rays, also covering gamma-ray astronomy and neutrino observations.
All talks from the GERACLE participants at ECRS were related to solar energetic particles and their observations at the Earth. Sergey Koldobskiy gave the highlight talk about the current state of the art in studies of relatively recently discovered extreme solar energetic particle events. Moreover, Alex Mishev served in the International Scientific Program Committee (ISPC) responsible for the SH - Solar and heliospheric cosmic rays, SEPs and GCR propagation section.
